(re)Treat Yourself

Elevating a dated spa to reflect today’s style was both invigorating and zen-like.

Elevating a dated spa to reflect today’s style was both invigorating and zen-like.  Our clients wanted a space where people could escape from their day-to-day, whether treating themselves to a relaxing full-body massage in a private treatment room or planning a pedi/mani night with their peeps.

Project Features

Work Description

The deconstruction to drywall prepared the space for a full interior renovation. A key design element was the installation of a custom Oak slat wall behind the reception desk, which was repurposed, clad in white oak, and upgraded with a new countertop to enhance both function and aesthetics.

The project included custom cabinetry installation, ensuring tailored storage solutions that fit seamlessly into the refreshed space. All finishes were replaced, introducing a modern and cohesive look. Upgrades included new plumbing fixtures and white vinyl flooring, selected for durability and a clean, contemporary feel.

The color palette was carefully curated to create a calming atmosphere, featuring sea-blue foam and off-white tones, complemented by Gingko Leaf wallpaper for a subtle yet elegant touch. The result is a refined, welcoming environment that blends natural textures with a serene ambiance.

About the Location - Hyatt Regency Vancouver

The Hyatt Regency Vancouver is a luxury hotel located in the heart of downtown Vancouver, offering upscale accommodations with modern amenities and stunning city views. Known for its sophisticated design, exceptional dining options, and extensive event spaces, it caters to both business and leisure travelers. Its central location provides easy access to top attractions like Robson Street, Stanley Park, and the Vancouver Convention Centre.

Challenges

Renovating inside a downtown Vancouver mall came with challenges like strict noise and work-hour restrictions to minimize disruptions to businesses and shoppers. Parking and access for workers, deliveries, and waste removal were limited, requiring careful scheduling and coordination. Additionally, unexpected structural or mechanical issues in the older mall structure added complexity, all while pressure was on to complete the renovation as quickly as possible so the business could open on time.

Client Testimonial:

We interviewed and received RFP’s from three contractors to renovate a hotel spa in downtown Vancouver. We were on a tight timeline and were budget conscious. Smithwood understood the nature of the project and our goals the best; despite their proposal not being the cheapest (though extremely fair and reasonable), they gave us the most confidence to complete the project on budget and on time. Any initial hesitancy about their ability to transfer their expertise from residential to commercial quickly dissipated. It was clear that Jim, Joanne, and their team have very strong relationships with a large network of trades, who consistently impressed us with their quick response times and discerning standards. As with any project, there are bound to be some hiccups, but Jim and Joanne demonstrated that they do not take the easy way out, taking the time and energy to understand all viewpoints and reaching decisions with integrity and accountability. Our project was completed on time and on budget with clear communication and transparency throughout. We couldn’t be happier; the astoundingly positive feedback we have received from both the hotel execs and clients speak to both the outstanding quality work and design choices put forth by Smithwood. Thank you.
